This snapshot taken by astronauts on December 7, 1972 is one of the most widely distributed photographic images in existence. The image is one of the few to show a fully lit Earth, as the astronauts had the Sun behind them when they took the image. I remember these exciting times as America raced to the moon.On a warm day in July, when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon’s surface, I just couldn’t believe it! Men landing at the Sea of Tranquility! As I watched this event before my eyes on a tiny black and white TV I was breathless. I was so very proud of these three brave men flying the distance from earth to moon in the airless cold outer space and then they returned back home afterwards.
